The Jordan sneaker brand originated from a Nike basketball sneaker named after the NBA basketball player Michael Jordan. In 1984, Jordan signed a sponsorship contract with Nike. The first "signature sneaker" of Michael Jordan came out in 1985 as the Air Jordan I. NBA basketball players like Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul now have their own "signature" Jordan sneakers. In 1997, Nike unveiled that Jordan was a stand-alone brand. This was an important moment for the sneaker brand, and was celebrated with the release of the Jordan XIII. Since then the Jordan products only the feature the Jumpman logo, and Jordan brandname. And no longer the Nike Swoosh logo or brand name.
