As early as 1996, Nike first thought of a sneaker that should combine two characteristics: on the one hand, feet and shoes should harmonize more, i.e. the fit was paramount - in addition, the sneakers should have the same comfort as Offer slippers. The then shoe developer Tobie Hatfield committed himself to this project. The biggest hurdle was finding an ideal upper for the Nike slipper. Hatfield was looking for a lighter alternative to neoprene. It was found in 2000 and created the Nike Air Presto as we know it today. The so-called "spacer mesh", originating from the medical industry, offered the desired breathability and flexibility - the "T-shirt for the foot" was born.
