Back in 1996 the people at Nike were already starting to think about making a sneaker that would merge two characteristics: the first idea was that feet and shoes should be more in harmony with each other, meaning that the focus was on fit – and the second was that sneakers should offer the same level of comfort as slippers. The footwear designer of the time, Tobie Hatfield, applied himself to this project. The biggest hurdle was finding the ideal upper material for the Nike slipper. Hatfield wanted a more breathable alternative to neoprene and found it in 2000, giving rise to the Nike Air Presto as we know it today. “Spacer mesh”, a material originally used in the medical industry, offered the sought-after breathability as well as flexibility – the “T-shirt for the foot” was born.
Once released back in 2000, the „AUS“ Presto was only available as a special release, gifted to Australian athletes and Nike’s Family & Friends. 20 years later, right in time for its anniversary, the iconic colorway returns for the first time for the free market. The neoprene-upper, as used in the original Air Presto, comes in a ‘Fresh Water’ Colorway with embroidered details on the forefoot and the tongue.
The shipments are free of charge within the Netherlands, Belgium & Germany. If you order before 21:00, the sneakers will come your way the same day.
